6 Least Favorite Movies of 2024
As the year winds down, it's time to reflect on the movies that didn’t quite hit the mark for me in 2024. While I’m usually open to various genres and storytelling approaches, these six films disappointed me for different reasons. Here's my rundown:

#6: Immaculate
Horror movies are usually my jam, even the graphic ones. But Immaculate hit a nerve I didn’t expect. While I can handle intense gore (Saw is no big deal for me), this film went beyond discomfort to genuine unease—specifically with its chilling ending featuring the cold-blooded murder of an infant. Even though I generally enjoy religious horror, the concept crossed a line that made it hard for me to appreciate the film.
#5: Speak No Evil
If you’ve seen the trailer for Speak No Evil, you’ve essentially seen the entire movie. The story drags, and despite James McAvoy delivering a strong performance, he couldn’t save the slogging plot. For a thriller, it failed to keep me guessing or engaged, making it feel like a waste of time.
#4: Bob Marley: One Love
Musical biopics often fall short of their grand expectations, and Bob Marley: One Love was no exception. While I respect that the filmmakers honored the Marley family’s wishes, the movie didn’t resonate with me emotionally. It lacked the spark and soul I was hoping to see in a tribute to such an iconic artist.
#3: Joker: Folie à Deux
This one stings the most because it was my most anticipated movie of the year. I loved 2019’s Joker and am a massive Lady Gaga fan, so my hopes were sky-high. Unfortunately, Gaga’s character felt like a complete misstep. Instead of enhancing the Joker’s story, she turned it into a chaotic, nonsensical mess. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal was phenomenal as always, but the script didn’t do him justice. This sequel tarnished the legacy of the original for me.
#2: We Live in Time
Movies are my escape from the mundane aspects of life, but We Live in Time made me relive them instead. Despite a few emotional moments (yes, I shed a tear), the overall vibe of the film was dull and uninspired. Even as a huge Florence Pugh fan, I couldn’t find much to love about this movie.
#1: The Strangers: Chapter 1
The top spot on my least favorite list goes to The Strangers: Chapter 1. My Letterboxd review sums it up: “This was so bad I forgot I watched it.” Essentially a lackluster rehash of the original film (which I already didn’t like), this movie brought nothing new to the table. Sure, the concept of being terrorized in your own home is inherently unsettling, but the execution was unimaginative and boring.
While I enjoy critiquing films, I always approach each one hoping to love it. Unfortunately, these six just didn’t meet my expectations. Have you seen any of these? What were your least favorite movies of the year? Let me know in the comments!
