'Longlegs' Review

I was too horrified to come up with a creative review title.

Holy shit. Where do I even start?

Christine Ewart longlegs movie reivew

I loved the clear inspiration this movie got from other horror classics. Besides the obvious 'Silence of the Lambs' inspiration, I also got some 'Carrie' vibes from this film, given the heavy mother-daughter religious pressure theme as well as the striking resemblance the main character's mother had to Sissy Spacek.

The cast was insanely talented. Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, and Kiernan Shipka were exceptional, and NICHOLAS CAGE WAS FUCKING INSANE! He's such a weird guy. The other day, I was on a date, and we talked about our thoughts on Nicholas Cage. He's always just been kind of "there." Like you watch a movie and go, "Oh he's in this." But his recent work has honestly been super good. I loved him in 'Dream Scenario' last winter, but THIS??? His character made me extremely uncomfortable! Which clearly shows a job well done.

Two days later, I'm still reflecting on the movie's plot. After watching it, I drove home with 'Bang a Gong' by T-Rex playing, contemplating the movie's themes. Without giving away any spoilers, one thought-provoking philosophical question the movie raised to me was: Is it better to act for the greater good of most people, or is an action morally right if it follows a principle of pure reason, regardless of the consequences?

You need to catch this movie while it is in theaters. I don't care what you have planned. Cancel your date. Skip work. Blow off your therapy appointment (okay, maybe don't do that.) But check out this film while it's still in theaters.
