Starting a new year means more than just turning the calendar pages; it's also a journey through cinema, discovering the hidden treasures and eagerly anticipated releases that promise to captivate audiences As a movie blogger, I have decided to compile the "Cinema Stine's Official 2024 Movie Watchlist," consisting of the movies I am most excited to see in theaters this year.

the iron claw

Movies that are already out that I need to catch up on:

The Iron Claw

Being a huge A24 fan, “The Iron Claw film” was one of my highly anticipated films last year. With a cast including Zach Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Lily James, the 80's wrestling setting, and the amazing trailer, I am looking forward to seeing this film!

Ferrari

My boss recommended the film "Ferrari," which features one of my favorite actors, Adam Driver pulling off another great role, playing an older man. I am interested in this film due to its storyline and my appreciation for business movies, (think of “House of Gucci” or one of my personal favorites, “Wolf of Wall Street.”)

Napoleon

My friend, Nai, recommended the movie "Napoleon", which she claims focuses more on Napoleon's personal life than war. Despite not knowing much about history (or geography for that matter,) Nai enjoyed the movie and recommended it to me.

January:

Mean Girls

I love musicals, so I am excited to watch Mean Girls! I have seen where this movie has been getting a lot of backlash because it’s so different from the original, but I believe that the target audience of this adaptation is not the original fans of the film, but instead, fans of the musical theater genre.

Beekeeper

Growing up, I enjoyed watching Jason Statham movies with my dad, so you can only imagine how thrilled I am for this one! Plus, the bonus of Josh Hutcherson being in the film is the icing on the cake. As many of you who follow me on TikTok know, I am a big fan of his, and I am certainly not missing this movie.

argylle

February:

Argylle

If you’ve seen the trailer for "Argylle, "you might agree that it looks like a fantastic film, with Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill as part of the cast. It's even based on a novel, so I might consider reading it beforehand, considering I have been getting back into reading this past year!

Lisa Frankenstein

I don't have much information on this horror-comedy flick, but it piques my interest with Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton as part of the cast. Kathryn Newton's performances in the Ant-Man series, Paranormal Activity 4, and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu were impressive, which gives me hope for this movie. It seems worth checking out!

Madame Web

I, like the rest of the world, am captivated by Sydney Sweeney, and personally cannot wait to see her in an upcoming superhero movie. Although I am not familiar with Madam Web’s character, I am excited to see a new female lead in a Marvel superhero movie. Despite the recent underperformance of female-led superhero movies, this one seems promising and I am eager to watch it. However, I am worried that I might end up loving it, while the rest of the world hates it (that seems to be my trend with superhero films.)

Bob Marley: One Love

The trailers for "Bob Marley: One Love" have been playing for a while now, and I can't help but get emotional every time I watch them. Although I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Bob Marley fan, I have a good feeling about this movie, and I believe that if it lives up to the trailers, it will be worth watching.

Ordinary Angels

I'm not a big fan of Christian movies, as I usually find them to be very cheesy. However, I'm excited about this upcoming film, as it seems to be an exception. Similar to the “Bob Marley: One Love” trailer, I have cried every time I’ve watched this film’s trailer.

March:

Imaginary

I'm not particularly invested in watching this movie, but honestly, one factor luring me in is the inclusion of the song “Just My Imagination” in the trailer. It might sound stupid, but at least we know their marketing is working.

civil war

April:

Civil War

A24 is one of my all-time favorite film studios, and I can't get enough of their work. I would literally sit through a two-and-a-half-hour film of a flushing toilet if it had their name attached to it. A while back, I came across the trailer for their new movie, featuring the talented Kirsten Dunst and Nick Offerman. As a huge Parks and Recreation fan, I'm thrilled to see Offerman take on the role of the President in this exciting new project. The concept of the film is intriguing, and I can't wait to see what A24 has in store for us.

Challengers

Originally set to premiere in 2023, this movie was pushed back due to SAG-AFTRA strikes. Despite the delay, the trailer looks promising and I'm excited to see it. One of the reasons I'm interested in this film is Mike Faist, whom I find incredibly hot. Of course, Zendaya's presence is always a plus and she’s a generally great actor, but we already knew this.

May:

Garfield

The trailer for the latest Garfield movie is out and Garfield is so cute in it! While Chris Pratt seems to voice every character in big-budget movies these days, I can't help but love him as an actor, so, I am excited for this movie.

Furiosa

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of my top 10 favorite movies, and I loved Furiosa’s character. With Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast, I am highly anticipating the release of this film. It's one of the movies I'm most excited about this year.

inside out 2

June

Inside Out 2

With the first installment of Inside Out being a huge success, with its emotional and captivating storyline, I believe the sequel has the potential to surpass its predecessor. However, there is the possibility that Disney could fuck it up. This could go either way.

A Quiet Place: Day One

I had no idea that a new "A Quiet Place" movie was in the works, but I find the concept of exploring the origins of the series very enticing!

July:

Deadpool 3

I am so excited about this film, and the news of Wolverine's potential appearance in the upcoming film has me thrilled beyond words. However, it is bittersweet that my dad, who enjoyed the Deadpool movies, will not be around to see this one.

August:

Borderlands

So honestly, I don’t have any emotional investment in the Borderlands franchise, but my ex-boyfriend let me play Borderlands on his PlayStation for sometimes and it was really fun! Claptrap was super adorable in the game and I’m hoping that he’ll make an appearance in the film.

Kraven the Hunter

Despite being a former avid Marvel fan during my high school years, I have found myself losing interest in the constant stream of Marvel movies being pumped out since the release of “Avengers: Endgame”. Despite my reservations, I'm cautiously looking forward to seeing how Kraven’s tale plays out on the big screen.

September:

Saw XI

Unshamefully, I'm one of those individuals who find pleasure in watching the Saw franchise films. With that being said, I'll be seeing this upcoming movie in theaters and undoubtedly enjoying every minute of it.

Joker: Foile a Deux

October:

Joker: Foile a Deux

The movie “Joker: Foile a Deux” has been met with mixed opinions from people. While some people that I’ve encountered, might be apprehensive about the idea of a musical, I believe that it could be executed well. Regardless, I believe that Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix have the potential to deliver a great performance and make this movie a success.

December:

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my top favorite characters, and the first two movies were amazing. With the third installment coming out at the end of the year, I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing my favorite blue hedgehog on the big screen again.

Nosferatu

As a huge horror fan, I can't wait to see what I think will be the year's most thrilling movie. Although I haven't had the chance to watch many classics, I'm excited about this particular Gothic horror film. With Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Nicholas Hoult starring in it, I'm sure the performances will be excellent. This movie has the potential to be phenomenal.

What do you think? Are there any movies I should have put on my list that I left off? Leave me a comment and let me know. Here's to a year filled with cinematic wonders, unexpected gems, and unforgettable moments at the movies.
